Ambetter is a health insurance company owned by the Centene Corporation, which is a multi-national healthcare company that provides programs and services to under-insured and uninsured individuals. Ambetter offers customers affordable health care plans in 14 states including Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, and Nevada, among others.

Ambetter is Centene Corporation’s option for a health insurance marketplace, so it’s intended for individuals who lack health insurance, and possibly don’t qualify for traditional plans.

What’s Included in Ambetter’s Health Insurance Plans?

Ambetter health insurance plans offer prescription coverage, mental and behavioral health services, integrated care management, maternity and newborn care, 24/7 nurse advice line, Ambetter Telehealth, My Health Pays Rewards, and optional vision and dental coverage for adults.

The company has three plan options to choose from: Ambetter Essential Care, Ambetter Balanced Care, and Ambetter Secure Care, which are classified as bronze, silver, and gold, respectively.

The Ambetter Essential Care offers lower monthly premium payments, but higher out-of-pocket expenses, the Ambetter Balanced Care offers the best balance between monthly premium payments and out-of-pocket expenses, and the Ambetter Secure Care has higher monthly premium payments, but limits your out-of-pocket expenses.

Each plan has a different type of coverage and payment, but all of them include essential health benefits such as emergency services, hospitalization. outpatient or ambulatory services, preventive and wellness services, maternity and newborn care, pediatric services, mental health and substance abuse services, and laboratory services, among others.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Ambetter offers flexible healthcare options that fit different budgets and needs, with a few perks like the company’s My Health Pays Rewards, which allows customers to pay for medical expenses with the money they earn through the program, a 24/7 nurse advice line, and Ambetter Telehealth, which provides 24/7 phone or video access to in-network providers for non-emergency health issues. Additionally, Ambetter members can manage and pay for their account online, and the company’s website offers helpful tools like a provider search engine, and educational articles for those who want to learn more about insurance.

Having said that, Ambetter health insurance also has its drawbacks, like the fact that it’s only available in 15 states, you must sign up during the open enrollment period, and that the company may have stricter requirements to qualify than other traditional insurance companies, so customers should keep this in mind before purchasing.

Cancel Inurance 3 months ago, take off our payment info and they hit us with 2 months today out the bank account. We called them, told em we cancelled, they said they didn't receive the request. We gave notice of cancellation again. They won't refund us. Guess what, they want another month. We've had new insurance for 3 months now. We haven't made any claims to Ambetter. They know there were no services rendered. They just took our money for nothing. Pass this on, make sure these people get some shame with their greed.

Had to pick up this insurance due to being furloughed in April. At first the company was great but all of a sudden this month , they came out with a new provider directory which is awful and no longer shows my provider. My doctor was showing as a provider on date of service but the claim was denied as being out of network. When I called, member services said that the doctor was in service on that date and they’d look into it. Still waiting after several days. When I search for a pharmacy the closest one is now 50 miles away! Seriously??? I’m afraid to use my insurance anymore

Worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. Hard to find a doctor that will accept this insurance. Customer service reps have no idea what they are talking about. Will never use this insurance again. If you sign up under the Affordable Care Act please consider choosing another company for your needs.

Worst insurance company we have ever dealt with. When I dropped off the policy that my husband I were on together and left my husband only on the policy, then the new card failed to work at the pharmacy it took me 2 hours on the phone trying to get them to fix the error. They have horrible pharmacy benefits. If you have to use the Unaffordable Care Act go don't pick Ambetter, they are worthless. Will never use them again. CareSource was much better and had better pharmacy benefits so plan to switch back to CareSource during open enrollment.

Is a four month waiting period acceptable for an appointment because nobody in my area accepts this crappy insurance? CEO makes 20 million a year.

My premium was unfairly jacked up by over 2000% DURING THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC. Nothing but a bunch of crooks and conmen lining their pockets while I can't even find a doctor who takes their insurance.

I have called several times only for someone to pick up and hang up, or they pick up and say nothing while you can hear children in the background. Moreover, they send you to The Market Place answers to questions they should know but are too lazy to lookup or reach out for help. I have an important Covid question related to my financial and well being that I can not get any assistance from Ambetter!!!! And my premium is close to 250.00 a month for just myself while my income is 500.00 state unemployment as of July 31st the federal 600.00 unemployment I included as income was stopped. I am currently under a DRs care for broken L5 and slipped disk in my back and need to know if these... Read More

Before signing up with ambetter I checked to make sure they covered the generic version of Cialis (TADALAFIL) to treat ED. It came up as covered. Also, the policy I signed up for showed generic drugs covered for $20. My PCP submitted a prior authorization twice (required before you can fill a prescription) and ambetter denied it 2X. Amazing, they will take $2,500 per month for premiums but won't cover the one generic drug I take. So, they decide what is worth treating, not your doctor. BEWARE. The good news is I was able to fill my prescription with the AARP RX card for $17 (list was over $200). Again, thanks ambetter for a lousy first impression as a new subscriber. Got to... Read More

Their provider list is all false. They routinely list many names that you will find that are not contracted with Ambetter at all. One contracted with Ambetter are not the best either. It’s frustrating to go through this exercise. Every time you need for any specialty it’s the same experience. How to trust?

Awful, awful, awful. This is the worsth insurance I have ever had. I saw mixed reviews and took a chance. And man, do I regret it. It took me almost a month of alternating calls between Ambetter, my doctor and my pharmacy to get a medication. Every time I attempted anything that should be easy all I got was confused doctors/pharmacists and friendly but utterly clueless Ambetter reps. DO NOT, FOR ANY REASON, GET AMBETTER INSURANCE.
